Dwyane Wade likes superteams, says he and LeBron James nearly joined Bulls in 2010

Dwyane Wade Bulls

It probably won’t come as a surprise, but Dwyane Wade doesn’t have a problem with the concept of a superteam. In fact, he and LeBron James nearly ended up on a different one back in 2010.

After signing with the Chicago Bulls this summer, Wade revealed how it could have happened six years sooner, and with James in tow.

“I know LeBron’s eyes were here,” Wade recalled Thursday, via K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. “I know my eyes were here.

“I mean, this was a place I wanted to play. It was a place LeBron also loved. We loved the city of Chicago. It’s a great market as well. Obviously, the sunny sun of Miami is great too. We had two great choices.”

Wade is also a firm believer in allowing free agents to choose their own destiny, even if it means superteams.

“Whether you dislike the Heat or you loved the Heat, you were tuning in to watch the Heat. Same thing with Golden State now,” Wade said. “Our game is growing. … (Teams) can get rid of us at any moment, so to have the power to be able to do what we did in 2010, that felt great. That was a great moment for us. Three young African-American kids got the opportunity to control their own destiny.”

It’s easy to forget just how badly the Bulls wanted to lure James during the summer of 2010. Wade makes it sound like they were the runners-up in that sweepstakes. Things obviously could have been a lot different had that gone down.
