Geno Auriemma has message for UConn haters

Geno Auriemma

The University of Connecticut women’s basketball program has been on a sustained run of excellence for several years that has produced more than a few haters and head coach Geno Auriemma has no time for them.

To the surprise of no one, the Huskies have advanced to the Final Four of this year’s Women’s NCAA Tournament after easy victories over Albany, Syracuse, UCLA, and Oregon. UConn is the presumptive favorite to be the last team standing as national champion yet again, which would be their fifth consecutive title.

An overwhelming amount of talent in recent years has certainly contributed to UConn’s recent run of success. So has Auriemma, who has carved out a Hall of Fame career for himself. Along with countless accolades have come detractors and Auriemma wants them all to know he has put in hard work prior to reaping the rewards.

Auriemma has a reputation of being brash and outspoken. However, when you have the accomplishments he does it’s tough to argue with it. Auriemma has an astounding 11 national championships on his resume and is just two wins away from No. 12.

The Huskies have won an incredible 111 consecutive games, which started with a win over Creighton on November 23, 2014. They are also playing in their 10th consecutive Final Four. The streak has to come to an end eventually, right? Conventional wisdom would say yes, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it’ll anytime soon.
