Gerald Green suspended two games for incident leading to hospitalization

Gerald Green’s first season with the Heat isn’t off to the start he or the team had hoped for.

Last week, the 29-year-old was hospitalized after he was acting in an erratic manner at his condo that reportedly included Green screaming at the top of his lungs and needing to be restrained. Audio of the 911 call made from Green’s condo indicated the former slam dunk contest champion was “unconscious and bleeding.”

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra commented before the team’s game against the Timberwolves that Green is “safe and…healthy right now” which is certainly good news. That said, he won’t be suiting up for the team this week. The Heat announced on Tuesday Green has been suspended two games for conduct detrimental to the team.

“I want to apologize to my family, fans and the Heat organization,” Green said in a statement via the Miami Herald. “I accept the suspension and look forward to rejoining my teammates this weekend.”

The Heat have kept quiet on details leading to Green’s hospital stay and the conduct that ultimately led to his suspension. However, it’s apparent the organization felt strongly enough about what took place at Green’s condo that it warranted punishment.
