Gregg Popovich appears to have left extremely generous tip at Memphis restaurant

Gregg Popovich

Gregg Popovich is being credited for leaving an extremely generous tip at a Memphis restaurant last week.

A Reddit user uploaded a photo of a receipt from a Memphis restaurant called McEwen’s on Monroe that seems to indicate Popovich left a $5,000 tip after dining there on Friday.

The photo shows the receipt was produced just before 10 pm at Monroe’s on Friday, which was a day off for Pop’s San Antonio Spurs after their loss to the Grizzlies the night before. The coach’s bill came out to $815.73, but Pop decided to leave a tip of over 600 percent, for a total of $5,815.73 spent at the wine bar and restaurant.

Pop is a noted wine connoisseur.

But is the receipt authentic? The restaurant’s owner would only confirm that the Spurs coach has dined at the establishment in the past.

“Coach Popovich has been in our restaurant in the past multiple times,” McEwen’s owner Bert Smithe told mySA.com.

As Busted Coverage pointed out, Pop has a history of tipping generously:

There is a completely different public perception of Popovich, who takes pride in being difficult towards reporters. But it’s clear he also has a very generous side as well.
