Gregg Popovich will not rest Spurs players due to poor play
The San Antonio Spurs were resting players before it was a widespread tactic, but don’t expect to see coach Gregg Popovich giving anyone a night off in the team’s final two games.
Popovich, upset with the team’s lackluster play after a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, said nobody will get to rest as the Spurs close out the regular season.
“Our execution at both games, defensively and offensively, was very poor,” Popovich said, via Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “Nobody’s going to rest. Everybody’s going to play. We already rested everybody, and we have days in between now. It’s like the playoffs, kind of. There’s no back-to-backs. There’s no bad travel or anything like that, so it’s time for rhythm and that sort of thing. Hopefully we’ll play better next week.”
Pop has really exacting standards. If he’s not satisfied with his team’s play, he’s not going to allow them to sit out and get away with it, especially with the playoffs right around the corner.
