Grizzlies targeting Frank Vogel after firing Dave Joerger
The Memphis Grizzlies are targeting Frank Vogel as their next head coach after firing Dave Joerger on Saturday.
The Grizzlies deciding to fire Joerger was a long time coming, as they were sick of him criticizing their moves, such as some draft choices and trades. When his agent requested permission for him to interview for the Sacramento Kings job, they decided to let him go for good.
The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski says the Grizzlies have made Joerger their top target and expressed a willingness to pay market value for a top coach. That’s compared to Joerger, who was one of the lower-paid coaches in the league.
Vogel became a free agent when the Indiana Pacers decided not to bring him back next season as his two-year option had expired. Vogel is a highly respected coach in the league and expected to be scooped up by another team very quickly, which could end up being the the Grizzlies. Vogel led the Pacers to the playoffs five times in six seasons, with the exception coming last year when Paul George missed nearly the entire season.
