Agent says Grizzlies tried to sign Milos Teodosic in 2013

Point guard extraordinaire Milos Teodosic has once again captivated international basketball audiences with his flashy playmaking and ball-handling wizardry for his native Serbia at the Rio Olympics this summer. Now we know just how close Teodosic came to making the jump to the NBA.

Teodosic’s agent Nick Lotsos said on Monday that the Memphis Grizzlies attempted to sign the European sensation to a $5 million-plus deal in 2013, per David Pick of Bleacher Report. Teodosic ultimately chose to re-sign with Russian basketball club CSKA Moscow instead.

The 29-year-old Teodosic has had a long history of triumphs at the international level, winning the Euroleague with CSKA Moscow in 2016 and taking home the Euroleague MVP in 2010 to go along with five All-Euroleague selections over the years.

Though he struggles to defend, Teodosic would have made for a compelling fit in the pick-and-roll-heavy NBA, especially now that it’s importing more talent from overseas than ever before. For now, I guess we’ll just have to settle for mind-numbing passes like these whenever Teodosic suits up in Olympic play.
