Jazz officially announce contract extension for head coach Quin Snyder

Quin Snyder Jazz

Job security isn’t exactly great for NBA head coaches these days, so Quin Snyder has gotta be thrilled about this one.

The Utah Jazz officially announced a long-term contract extension for Snyder on Friday. While the exact terms were not released per team policy, Jody Genessy of the Deseret News reports that the deal will run through the 2020-21 season.

Snyder, 49, led the Jazz to a 40-42 record last season in his second year as the team’s head coach. While Utah has failed to qualify for the postseason in either of Snyder’s first two campaigns at the helm, he has helped transform them into one of the top defensive teams in the league (their 101.6 defensive rating ranked 8th in the Association in 2015-16, per NBA.com). Under Snyder, the Jazz have been a handful to deal with because they systematically grind out possessions on offense and slow down the pace, limiting the number of them available for opponents.

Organizational stability matters, especially so in today’s NBA, and Snyder looks the right guy for the job as the Jazz hope to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2012.
