Report: Jeff Hornacek fired by Suns

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly fired head coach Jeff Hornacek.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Suns GM Ryan McDonough informed Hornacek of the decision Sunday night after the team returned to Phoenix on the heels of a 91-78 loss in Dallas — the Suns’ 19th in their last 21 games. The loss was also the team’s 14th consecutive loss on the road.

The Suns are 14-35 this season and all but certain to miss the playoffs for the fifth straight year. Hornacek finished as the runner-up in NBA Coach of the Year voting in his first season with the team when he led the 2013-2014 Suns to a 48-34 record after they finished just 25-57 the year before.

It has been all downhill from there. Phoenix has lost Eric Bledsoe to a season-ending injury and had to deal with a disgruntled Markieff Morris, who has been unhappy since his twin brother Marcus was traded during the offseason. If you remember, there was an incident during a game in which Markieff threw something at Hornacek.

Where will the Suns turn next? There have already been rumors that they could bring one of their former coaches back, though that seems unlikely. The interim coach for the Suns will be either Corey Gaines or Earl Watson.
