Report: Jrue Holiday’s return to Pelicans imminent

The 1-8 New Orleans Pelicans could use some encouraging news, and they got it on Friday.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, guard Jrue Holiday’s return to the team is imminent, and he’s planning to make his season debut some time next week.

The 26-year-old Holiday took an indefinite leave of absence from the team in September to care for his wife Lauren, who had to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumor in October shortly after giving birth to the couple’s first child.

While Tim Frazier has done well filling in as New Orleans’ starting point guard, the former All-Star Holiday’s production (16.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game in 2015-16) has been sorely missed.

It’s an excellent development all around, both for the Holiday family in that Holiday’s wife appears to progressing back to good health and for the Pelicans in that they are soon to have their No. 2 option behind superstar big Anthony Davis back in the lineup.
