Report: Kawhi Leonard nearing 100 percent, will be ready for next season

Kawhi Leonard

Despite the air of uncertainty that has hung over him for the last few months, Kawhi Leonard seems to be making excellent progress with his quad injury.

NBA insider Shams Charania was on “The Yahoo! Sports NBA Podcast” with Chris Mannix this week and gave an update about the San Antonio Spurs star.

“He’ll be ready [to play next season],” said Charania about Leonard. “He’s already close to 100 percent. He’ll be fine going into the year … I think he’s reaching that point where he’s at 100 percent health.”

The 26-year-old ex-Defensive Player of the Year is entering into an uncertain summer after the mysterious quad issue cost him all but nine games this past season and led to widespread speculation that his relationship with the Spurs was irreparably damaged. Granted, San Antonio continues to strongly hint that they intend to mend their fences with Leonard, who has one more year left on his current contract but is eligible for a five-year supermax extension.
