Kevin Durant on Stephen Curry: ‘He makes bad shots’

Trying to contain back-to-back MVP Stephen Curry is a humbling lesson in impossibility theory, and Kevin Durant, like every other defender in the Association, has gotten hopelessly frustrated.

Speaking with reporters after the Thunder’s blowout 118-91 loss in Game 2 to the Warriors on Wednesday, Durant mentioned part of what makes Curry so tough to guard.

“He makes bad shots,” said Durant. “You know, he makes those shots. And sometimes you gotta just, you know, put a hand up and contest, and you know, when you pick-and-roll, try to put a couple bodies on him. But he made some tough ones, you know, and then we turned the ball over and he got a few in transition, too.”

The Durantula isn’t wrong. Many, perhaps even the majority of the shots Curry takes are completely abject and unreasonable from a shot selection standpoint. But as the old saying goes, “There’s no such thing as a bad shot if it goes in.”

That’s the struggle of trying to comprehend a post-modern superstar like Steph that cannot be understood according to traditional forms of basketball meaning. Join the club, KD. The rest of us are just as baffled as you are.
