Report: Kevin Love will opt out, consider signing with Lakers
When the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Kevin Love over the summer, it was reported that Love had a handshake agreement with the team for a five-year extension worth around $120 million. All of a sudden, he is already thinking about leaving.
At least that’s what Sam Smith of Bulls.com claims. According to Smith, there is reason to believe that Love will opt out of his contract after the season and consider signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. Love went to college at UCLA, and there is supposedly mutual interest between him and the Lakers.
We know the Lakers will have plenty of cap space next summer and would certainly make a run at Love, but will they give him a better opportunity to win? I know the Cavs are off to a slow start, but so were the Miami Heat when they first assembled their super-squad. The Lakers look plain horrible.
If winning championships is Love’s top priority, you would have to think he will want to stay in Cleveland. It makes plenty of sense that he would opt out to get more money and years, but that doesn’t mean he’s leaving. Unless the Cavs completely implode this year, we’d be surprised if he did.
