Kevin Love refuses to accept Kelly Olynyk’s apology

Kevin Love Kelly Olynyk

As the Cavaliers continue their pursuit of an NBA championship, they are forced to do so without the services of Kevin Love. Love is out 4-6 months after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder as a result of a play involving Olynyk, which Love called “bush-league.”

Since then, Olynyk has tried to reach out to Love to offer an apology for what he insists was not an intention to injure the Cavaliers forward. As Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports describes, Love apparently has no interest in hearing what Olynyk has to say.

Boston Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk and his representatives have continued to deliver word to Love and people close to him that Olynyk wants to privately apologize to him, sources told Yahoo Sports. Olynyk wants to tell Love personally that he never intended to injure him in Game 4 of that series, that he’s sorry for the shoulder surgery that’ll cost Love six months.

Strangely, Love continues to rebuff Olynyk. He isn’t interested in the call, refusing to ease Olynyk’s guilt.

Love wanted to be a member of the Cavaliers because LeBron James is there and they have a more than legitimate shot to make it out of the Eastern Conference and into the NBA Finals. With Love’s season now over, after experiencing his first taste of playoff basketball, it’s understandable he would be frustrated.

On the other hand, it’s obvious Olynyk feels bad about what happened and wants to speak to Love in private. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that. Olynyk can make the effort, but if Love is being standoffish there isn’t much else Olynyk can do, which is unfortunate.
