Knicks getting close to discussing Carmelo Anthony trade?

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is still under contract with the New York Knicks for another four years and still the central player in the franchise, but the team may be getting closer to thinking about trading him.

In an article for Grantland about Markieff Morris, Zach Lowe suggests the Kings and Knicks should pursue a trade for the forward. It’s in that context that and he says the Knicks are getting closer to discussing trading ‘Melo.

The Kings and Knicks should take a look, even though neither has movable assets that would interest Phoenix — unless the Knicks are ready to engage in Carmelo Anthony trade talks. (They’re not there, yet. But they’re getting closer.)

Though the Knicks may consider the possibility of dealing their franchise player at some point in the future, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. One, ‘Melo has a full no-trade clause, so he would have to agree to waive it for a potential deal. That would not come easily, nor would it come without a lot of leaks to the media. Two, he is only 31 and averaged 24.2 points per game last season, so he is still young enough to be a solid player for another few years.

But we understand that the Knicks are bad and need to rebuild, and they are doing so starting with first-round pick Kristaps Porzingis. We also believe that ‘Melo was initially unhappy with the pick of the foreign player, not to mention the front office for blowing it when it came to signing LaMarcus Aldridge.
