Report: Knicks fire coach Derek Fisher

Derek-Fisher

The New York Knicks have reportedly fired head coach Derek Fisher.

Sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne Monday morning that Fisher is out as the team’s head coach.

Kurt Rambis will reportedly serve as the team’s interim coach. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, league sources expect that the team will look at Brian Shaw and Luke Walton as permanent replacements.

Fisher was in just his second season as the team’s head coach, having compiled a 40-96 record. The team is 23-31, and has already won more games than they did all of the previous season, but they’ve lost nine of their last ten after starting the year 22-22, with a home loss against the mediocre Denver Nuggets on Sunday apparently being the last straw.

We first heard that Fisher’s position may have been under threat about three weeks ago, and it seemed far-fetched. Clearly, it wasn’t, and this poor run sealed Fisher’s fate. Matt Barnes will be a very happy man, no doubt.
