Kristaps Porzingis calls Knicks’ strong start ‘a curse’

Kristaps Porzingis

The New York Knicks have been rather inconsistent lately just as it had looked like they had turned a corner to start the season, and the irony is definitely not lost on star big man Kristaps Porzingis.

After the Knicks lost by double-digits to a bottom-of-the-barrel Atlanta Hawks team on Friday, Porzingis commented on the complacency he was sensing.

“The good start we had actually was a curse,” said the Latvian, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. “We relaxed [a] little bit.”

After many well-documented seasons of futility, Porzingis and the Knicks had been stirring up some excitement in The Big Apple with a series of impressive wins that included six victories over a seven-game stretch from late October to early November. But the Knicks have essentially been playing .500 ball since then, and Porzingis clearly isn’t happy about it (even if that pace will probably be enough to get them into the playoffs in the Eastern Conference).
