Kwame Brown reportedly attempting NBA comeback

Stop laughing.

According to a report by Emiliano Carchia of Sportando on Monday, former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown, one of the most notorious disappointments in league history, has signed with the agency Interperformances in the hopes of making an NBA comeback.

Brown is now 34 years old and last played in the Association in 2012-13, averaging 1.9 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game in 22 appearances for the Sixers. He holds career averages of 6.6 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game in his 12 NBA seasons.

The South Carolina native was the top overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft but never came close to living up to his potential, thanks in part to a lack of maturity, focus, and work ethic. Brown also found himself hindered by a low basketball IQ and hands that often seemed like bricks, while a brutal experience under the mentorship of Michael Jordan in Washington appeared to have severely and permanently damaged his confidence. His time playing alongside Kobe Bryant on the Lakers seemed to confirm that notion as well.

The NBA is now moving away from players of Brown’s size and skillset, so it’s doubtful he’ll find much success with his comeback bid, especially given his advanced age and his reputation. But hey, I guess it can never hurt to try.
