LeBron James: ‘Who am I to say’ David Blatt doesn’t deserve championship ring?

LeBron James David Blatt

The Cleveland Cavaliers had the best record in the Eastern Conference at the time they fired David Blatt last season, and we all know Blatt’s relationship — or lack thereof — with LeBron James had a lot do with the decision. So what does LeBron think about his former coach getting a championship ring?

Blatt said earlier in the week that he is happy to accept a ring from the Cavs because of how “respectful” the organization was in offering it to him. From the sound of it, LeBron’s opinion on the gesture didn’t matter.

“That’s an organizational thing and if that’s what they wanted to do then we’re all for it,” James said Wednesday, per Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com. “Who am I to say who can or can’t get a ring?”

Is there anything wrong with what LeBron said? No. Are there a hundred other things he could have said that would make people feel Blatt was deserving of some championship hardware? Of course.

LeBron wanted Blatt gone. We all know King James is the de facto general manager of the Cavs, so coaching changes are very much in his job description. If you want to know how much respect LeBron had for Blatt, this video should remind you. James certainly would not have been bummed out if the team didn’t offer Blatt a ring.
