Report: LeBron James wants to win title with Lakers then retire
LeBron James announced on Sunday that he is changing teams for the third time in his incredible NBA career, and it sounds as though his intention is to make a Los Angeles Lakers jersey the last one he wears.
Robert Littal of Black Sports Online said Sunday that he was told by a source that LeBron is “in it for the long haul” in L.A. He also indicated that LeBron could retire sooner than expected if he wins a championship with the Lakers.
What’s next now that LeBron will sign with Lakers? I give you some insight on LeBron’s end game which the birdie says is him winning a championship in LA then retiring #BSOTV pic.twitter.com/tOVv7Lw8Bn

“LeBron is in it for the long haul. I’ve been told specifically that he wants to end his career in LA with a championship,” Littal said. “If he gets a championship in LA, expect him to retire after that championship.”
Some have noted that LeBron says his ultimate goal is to play in the NBA at the same time as his son, LeBron Jr., but that is at least five years away from being a possibility. Littal says LeBron obviously wouldn’t retire if the Lakers managed to win a title next season, but the idea of going out on top is appealing to him.
I think if by chance and that would be crazy they won in year one, of course not, but to play with Bronny that would be 5 seasons. Not impossible, but the idea of going out a champion like Jordan (ignore Wizards years) is very appealing https://t.co/J3gNBSBwHc

LeBron fulfilled his promise by bringing a title to Cleveland, which is why the goodbye letter from his former boss took a much different tone this time around. He knows at this point that he isn’t going to win more championships than Jordan, so winning one with the Cavs and then helping bring the Larry O’Brien Trophy back to one of the most storied franchises in sports would certainly make for a great legacy.
