Luka Doncic says he is not trying to avoid any particular NBA team

Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic will be viewed as one of the top players in the upcoming NBA Draft if he chooses to leave the EuroLeague, but he has not yet committed to doing so. While some wonder if that means he is trying to avoid being drafted by a particular NBA team, the 19-year-old insists that is not the case.

Doncic is currently playing in the EuroLeague Final Four with Real Madrid, and he said earlier in the week that he has not made up his mind about coming to America.

“Ι’m not sure if these are the last two games [in EuroLeague], Doncic said. “We have yet to make this decision. Perhaps after the season.”

With the Phoenix Suns expected to draft Arizona’s DeAndre Ayton at No. 1 overall, there has been talk that Doncic does not want to go to the Sacramento Kings at No. 2. Doncic’s agent, Bill Duffy, told Sean Deveney of Sporting News that the 6-foot-6 guard has not taken that into consideration.

“Luka has stated no particular thought on any NBA teams,” Duffy said.

Doncic stands to make millions more in salary if he enters the NBA Draft rather than re-signing with Real Madrid. Given how highly we have heard some teams think of him, it would be a major surprise if he decided to remain in Europe. The Slovenian is averaging 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists this season, and his stock can’t get much higher. His comments earlier in the week were probably more about remaining focused on the EuroLeague finals and showing his teammates he is still committed to them.
