Luke Walton: Lakers will not run the triangle offense
Luke Walton has been head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers for less than a day, but he already has a good idea about how he’s going to run the team. For starters, he says the team will not run the triangle offense.
Walton spoke with the media on Saturday and provided some insight about what the system he’s planning to implement.
Walton will not run the triangle offense as the Lakers' coach. It's not the "most appropriate" offense for personnel they have, he said.

Luke will run offense more like Golden State, with spacing and motion, he says.

Walton played in the triangle offense as a Lakers player under Phil Jackson. The triangle offense is the favorite of Jackson, whose Knicks teams follow his directive to run it. But as an assistant coach with the Warriors, Walton knows how devastating a motion and spacing offense can be, and he’s electing to go with that.
Walton’s preferred offense could be another explanation for why he wasn’t as interested in the Knicks’ job.
