Luke Walton threatened Draymond Green if he didn’t take open shots

Draymond Green

Draymond Green had one of his best offenses games of the playoffs on Sunday when he scored a team-high 28 points in the Golden State Warriors’ convincing 110-77 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2. Green went 11-of-20 with five 3-pointers, seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.

After the game, Green was interviewed by ABC/ESPN’s Doris Burke and was asked about his comfort in taking some of his shots. He said that he was encouraged — and even threatened — by his coaches to take the shots.

“Coach actually texted me last night,” Green said. “He said ‘this is a great series for you. Take your rhythm shots when they’re there, step up and knock them down.’ I hesitated on the first three of the game. Luke (Walton) called me over and said, ‘if you hesitate on a shot again, we got a problem.’ Just knowing that when it’s in the flow of the offense, they leave me open, when it’s a good shot, take it.”

The advice certainly worked, as a confident Green turned it on for the Warriors from the start. He had 18 points in the first half, including three straight threes to start the second quarter.

The Warriors’ coaches should be patting themselves on the back for a job well done in managing Green and bringing the best out of him, using any means necessary.
