Miami Heat pull off trade for Goran Dragic

Goran Dragic

The Miami Heat pulled off one of the biggest moves prior to the NBA trade deadline Thursday.

The Heat acquired Goran Dragic from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Danny Granger, Justin Hamilton and two first-round draft picks. Dragic was arguably the best player available on the market this week and will give the Heat a much-needed weapon. The Heat also acquired his brother, Zoran, as part of the deal.

Dragic was frustrated with the Suns’ roster construction and told the team this week that he would not re-sign with them after the season. Knowing that he was poised to leave, Phoenix decided to trade him to get at least some compensation. The Suns also traded Isaiah Thomas to Boston, but they got Brandon Knight from Milwaukee in a three-team trade.

The Heat are 22-30 and tied with the Charlotte Hornets for the final playoff spot in the East. Adding Dragic should help them move up the standings.
