Michael Jordan tells Klay Thompson to ‘go ahead’ and break Bulls’ win record

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson has Michael Jordan’s blessing to break the regular season wins record.

The Warriors are on pace to break the league-best 72-10 mark set by the 1995-96 Bulls. The star of that Bulls team passed the torch to Thompson, the less-heralded but still deadly Splash Brother, during Saturday night’s All-Star festivities.

“He said ‘Go ahead and go break the record,'” Thompson said of Jordan after winning the Three Point Contest, via CSN Bay Area.

The Warriors are 48-4 at the break, and on pace to shatter the record. Jordan is apparently a fan.

“He was cool to talk to, he gave me a lot of props, told me to tell my pops hi and my uncle,” Thompson said. “It was just great seeing him. He’s easy to talk to, which I didn’t know because he’s Michael Jordan.

“I felt like I honestly arrived too, because he knew who I was so that was really cool.”

The Warriors seem to be the heir apparent for many of this generation’s superstars. In addition to what Jordan told Thompson, Kobe Bryant told Stephen Curry to make history in a torch-passing gesture of his own.
