NBA may address Warriors’ superteam in CBA

Kevin Durant Warriors

The ridiculous superteam the Golden State Warriors have built is something the league may try to address in the collective bargaining agreement.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver joined NBA TV before Thursday’s draft to talk about some league issues. One subject that came up is the dominance of the Warriors. Silver said that teams should be rewarded for excellent management, but acknowledged that the way Kevin Durant joined the team to make them even better is something that could be addressed.

“You want to reward great management, and I think right now, the Warriors should be praised and celebrated,” Silver said. “You have Steph (Curry), Klay (Thompson), and Draymond (Green) obviously drafted. I understand how some people are bothered by the fact that KD (Kevin Durant) went to a team that was already loaded. And maybe that is something we can address in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

“The Warriors didn’t do anything wrong, and KD didn’t do anything wrong. These are people who are driven to compete, and they saw an opportunity with a big cap increase, and they took advantage of it. You can’t fault them for that.”

The most recent CBA was put into effect before last season and is set to run through 2023-24. Silver has not made it clear how the league might address things.

The Warriors were coming off two straight Finals appearances and a 73-win season when Durant joined them. Not only did that weaken one of the Warriors’ best opponents in the conference, but it further strengthened Golden State, which went on to win two straight titles.

Silver’s current remarks are somewhat of a departure from what he said about the Warriors last year.
