NBA executive predicts ‘awkward few months’ for Kyrie Irving, Cavaliers

Kyrie Irving

Do not count on Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers to come to a quick resolution.

In light of the point guard’s trade request, one Western Conference executive predicted to Chris Mannix of the Vertical that the asking price for Irving will be extremely high — and the situation may not be resolved until December at the earliest.

“The price is going to be super high,” the anonymous executive said. “There is a lot riding on this for Cleveland. They might have to wait until Dec. 15 to do any deal. It could be an awkward few months.”

That date is when players who sign contracts this summer can be traded, so the executive expects dealing Irving to be a fairly arduous process.

The Cavaliers know that Irving’s trade request being public could impact any potential return, but the 25-year-old is one of the NBA’s elite players and has two years left on his contract. He’ll get a haul if they move him — it just might take a while.
