Carmelo Anthony: The Knicks are dying
When all is said and done, the 2014-2015 New York Knicks could easily be the worst team in franchise history. The Knicks, who have never won less than 21 games in a season, have lost 16 of their last 17 this year and have a record of 5-26 after their latest loss on Christmas Day.
We’ll let Carmelo Anthony sum things up for you.
“I feel what the fans are feeling,” Anthony Thursday, via Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com. “The fans are dying, we’re dying. We’re out there, we’re not producing. We didn’t expect, I didn’t expect to be sitting at 5-26. So as much as I feel for the fans, I feel for us going through it, too. I don’t expect nobody to feel sorry for us, I don’t expect nobody to feel sorry for me.”
The Knicks have kept plenty of games close, but that doesn’t matter. There’s a reason Phil Jackson is reportedly preparing for a fire sale, and there have even been indications that trading Anthony is not out of the question.
“We have spurts throughout the course of the game where we are showing something, showing that we’re getting it and we’re focused and we have the energy to go out and do it,” Carmelo added. “But there are times where we show that we’re not even out there on the basketball court. … We gotta start trying to put a whole game together.”
To this point, Jackson’s first year as head of basketball operations for the Knicks has been a failure. There’s no way Anthony doesn’t regret staying in New York, and Jackson probably feels just as bad about giving him a max contract.
If the Knicks don’t find a way to turn it around quickly, we fully expect Jackson to try to find a way to unload Anthony. That will not be an easy task.
