Report: Thunder still have good chance of retaining Paul George

Paul George

There are mixed opinions on what will happen with Paul George this summer, but one reporter is cautioning against assuming PG13 won’t return to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The New York Times’ Marc Stein reported in his newsletter that “there is a growing belief around the league that Oklahoma City has a far better chance to retain the free agent-to-be Paul George than many believed when the Thunder crashed out of the first round of the playoffs.”

A report in May said that George was going to leave the Thunder, but that seemed to contradict some of the other prevalent information. OKC’s brass seemed to be confident that their relationship was strong, and George gave hints during the season that he liked it with the Thunder.

The 28-year-old has said he hopes the team with whom he signs his next contract will be his last. There have long been reports tying him to the Los Angeles Lakers, and another Western Conference team is expected to make a big push for him. But don’t count out OKC.
