Report: Rajon Rondo to miss 4-6 weeks after hernia surgery

Rajon Rondo has decided to undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia, and the star point guard is expected to miss roughly the first month of the season while he recovers.

Shams Charania of The Vertical reports that Rondo underwent surgery on Tuesday after meeting with a specialist the day before. He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, and the regular season tips off in one week.

Rondo suffered the injury in Friday night’s preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The New Orleans Pelicans will have to rely on Jrue Holiday as their primary point guard for the first part of the season. Rondo, who averaged 7.8 points, 6.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 69 games with the Chicago Bulls last year, signed a one-year deal with the Pelicans in July.
