Rockets reportedly will assess GM Daryl Morey’s position after season

Daryl Morey

The Houston Rockets will reportedly be undertaking a full evaluation of their organization after the season, and general manager Daryl Morey will be one of those getting a look.

Houston is in serious danger of missing the playoffs just a year after winning 56 games and reaching the Western Conference Finals, so even if they make it, ownership intends to take a long look at what happened to the team, according to Marc Stein and Calvin Watkins of ESPN. That look will include the roster, interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff, and well-respected GM Morey.

Morey’s roster has been subject to criticism in some circles, and the locker room is said to be in disharmony as star players James Harden and Dwight Howard have not always seen eye to eye and Ty Lawson’s acquisition went poorly.

Given how Morey felt about his team before the season, it’s impossible to see the year as anything but a failure. While they could still sneak into the playoffs, Howard is almost certainly gone, and the roster will need to be redone, likely around Harden. Perhaps one free agent can help with that.
