Russell Westbrook pulls out of USA Basketball for summer

Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook has withdrawn from USA Basketball this summer, according to a report.

Yahoo! Sports says Westbrook, who underwent his third surgery on his knee in December, has decided not to play with the team over the next three months.

USA Basketball will have a training camp later this month followed by an exhibition tour in August and the World Cup in Spain in September.

Westbrook still hopes to play in the 2016 Summer Games, according to Yahoo!

USA Basketball is still loaded with guards despite Westbrook’s absence. The roster as of January included Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry and Bradley Beal. They still should be just fine.
