Scott Skiles reportedly frontrunner for Magic coaching job

Scott Skiles

The Orlando Magic are looking for a new head coach and it appears that they have found their top target.

Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Scott Skiles is the frontrunner for the job. Skiles played for the Magic five seasons from 1989-1994 and also is an accomplished coach. He has coached the Suns, Bulls and Bucks, going 443-433 over 13 seasons. He led teams to the playoffs six times.

Woj says Skiles appeals to the Magic because he has “a successful head-coaching résumé that includes strong emphasis on upgrading Orlando’s defense and accountability.” He was reported as a strong candidate for the job back in February.

Skiles resigned from his job as head coach of the Bucks two seasons ago with the team 16-16.

Woj reports that the Magic had interest in Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, but they were unwilling to trade a draft pick for him. The Bulls are seeking draft pick compensation for their coach.
