Stan Van Gundy doesn’t believe in resting his players

If the #NoDaysOff movement needs a new poster boy, perhaps they need look no further than Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy.

Speaking with the media ahead of Detroit’s third game in four nights on Wednesday, Van Gundy was asked about the league-wide trend of resting players and made it clear that he doesn’t believe in that philosophy, per Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders.

Of course as a middling team in their conference, the Pistons differ from some of the more notable maintenance teams like the San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers in that they can ill afford to throw away a game or two for the sake of keeping their players fresh down the stretch.

As such, it isn’t too difficult to see why Van Gundy, who is known for his blunt assessments, might find the entire concept of resting his guys foreign, especially this early into the season.
