Stephen Curry: Fans booing Kevin Durant are ‘buying into a narrative’
The Golden State Warriors got their first real taste of fan hatred for new free agent signee Kevin Durant in their preseason opener against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, and Stephen Curry was upfront about his disdain for it.
Durant was booed heavily during Golden State’s 97-93 loss at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver. After the game, Curry expressed his belief that the fans doing the booing are “buying into a narrative that doesn’t really make sense,” per Ethan Strauss of ESPN.

Whether Curry likes it or not however, the narrative makes perfect sense. The Warriors were already seen as the villains of the NBA, and that reputation was increased exponentially by adding an ex-MVP and four-time scoring champion to a 73-win team fresh off back-to-back Western Conference titles. Durant understood that his decision would result in this kind of backlash, and now it’s on him and the Dubs to either embrace the narrative or let it get under their skin and distract them from their goal of an NBA championship.
