Stephen Curry not interested in free agency, loves Warriors

Stephen Curry

Steph Curry does not appear to be anywhere close to leaving the Golden State Warriors, not that you’d think he would.

The reigning NBA MVP spoke with Sporting News for a promotional interview and was asked about his status with the team.

“As I am thinking right now, free agency isn’t really appealing to me because I love where I’m at, love the organization I’m playing for, and the Bay Area is home for me and my family,” Curry said.

Curry signed a four-year, $44 million extension with the Dubs in Oct. 2012 and has two years remaining on that deal. But he is not thinking about testing the waters when his deal is up in 2017.

“It helps being world champs and you want to continue to build the momentum that we’ve established and I hope to have a huge part of that in the long term. But I think the best approach for me is to try and stay as in the moment as possible.

“Everybody in this league is going to have many decisions to make, and you’ll be in a lot of different situations throughout your career, so in order to enjoy the ride, you kind of have to not get too ahead of yourself and just stay in the moment.”

That’s a good attitude to take, and an easy mentality to have given how well things have been going for him and his team. He knows he’s going to get mad money on his next contract, and he knows the Warriors are going to be an extremely competitive team at that time. Plus, Curry and everyone else with the franchise has to be excited about the possibility of moving to a new arena in the coming years too. What’s there not to love about his current situation?
