Steve Kerr will defer to Warriors players on chasing record instead of resting

Steve Kerr

Steve Kerr sounds like he’s changed his mind on the rest vs. record conundrum.

Kerr essentially admitted before Wednesday’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers that the Golden State Warriors have every intention of going for the record and not worrying so much about rest.

“Now we’re right there,” Kerr said, via Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News. “That’s pretty enticing.

“It’s really the players’ record. I know they want to get it. So we’ll act accordingly.”

Stephen Curry is one of the players who definitely doesn’t want to sit.

“Sitting out and watching is just boring,” Curry said. “I don’t like watching games if you have the opportunity to play in them.”

Kerr was careful to note that concerns will be balanced, but ultimately, this is for the players, and if the players want to chase the record, it’s their prerogative.

“Yeah, this whole idea of setting a record does make things a little trickier,” Kerr said. “It’s the players who are setting a record. It’s not the organization. It’s the players who are doing it.

“So they will absolutely have some say in matters down the stretch in terms of how we approach everything.”

Kerr previously said that rest would take precedence over chasing the record, but with Golden State needing to go at least 9-2 the rest of the way to set the regular season wins record – not that far-fetched, given their record – it seems that he’s changed his mind.
