Steve Kerr: JaVale McGee has ‘real chance’ to make Warriors roster

JaVale-McGee-money-to-homeless

The Golden State Warriors have one of the best rosters in NBA history heading into the 2016-2017 season, and apparently JaVale McGee has a legitimate shot at being a part of it.

McGee signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Warriors over the summer, and head coach Steve Kerr was asked on Wednesday if the veteran center has an actual chance of making the team.

“I think JaVale has a real chance here,” Kerr said, per Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News. “We’ll see how he plays in camp. But he comes highly recommended by Andre (Iguodala), who played with him in Denver.

“I think this is a really good opportunity for him, because he’s playing with a talented group of players and a really good environment … in which there’s nobody like him on the roster. I think he’s got a chance and we’ll give him every opportunity to play.”

McGee appeared in 34 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season and averaged 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

While McGee’s talent has always been undeniable, he tends to have more mental lapses than your average player — and that’s putting it nicely. Iguodala may have enjoyed playing with McGee in Denver, but McGee will have to prove he can avoid ridiculous blunders like this if he wants to join the NBA’s best team.
