Steve Kerr: ‘No timetable’ surrounding my return

Steve Kerr face

Steve Kerr remains out as he recovers from two back surgeries this offseason. Though he may have initially hoped to return to the Golden State Warriors early in the season, the team has already played over a quarter of its games without him. Luckily their record start — they won their first 24 games before losing this season — has afforded him time to not feel guilty about recovering. As for a timetable regarding his return, Kerr does not feel comfortable sharing one.

“There is no timetable–I have to feel well enough to go through the grind,” Kerr told the San Jose Mercury News’ Tim Kawakami.

“I know what the grind’s about. I know my body. And this will be a good couple of weeks being at home, really being engaged at practice. I’ll have a good feel over the next couple weeks. Can you deal with the symptoms and still grind and have the necessary juice to do the job? That’s kind of the question.”

Kerr admitted to Kawakami that the team’s excellent start under interim head coach Luke Walton has made him feel more comfortable about missing the first few months of the season. He also said that all last season, he and his coaching staff kept commenting that the team would be so much better this season because of their experience and comfort in the new system. Boy was he right.

Golden State may be doing quite well without Kerr, but it’s hard to imagine they wouldn’t want him back eventually. The guy is active enough that he has been drawing up plays that are working for the team. His return to the Warriors would be welcomed once he is ready.
