Steve Kerr spoke with Phil Jackson about Knicks coaching job

Steve KerrSteve Kerr has been mentioned in connection with the New York Knicks coaching job for the past few weeks, and it seems like the possibility of him becoming the team’s next coach is strong.

Kerr confirmed to the New York Daily News that he met with new Knicks president Phil Jackson for dinner on Friday night and that they talked about the coaching job. Jackson was Kerr’s coach with the Bulls from 1993-1998, including all three seasons of Chicago’s second threepeat.

“We talked about the coaching position and we’ll keep talking,” Kerr told the Daily News on Sunday. “I’ve made it pretty clear the past couple of years that I’d like to get into coaching, and now it’s sort of out there. It’s like anything else, you have to explore it and that’s what we’re doing.”

Kerr also spoke to Jackson on Saturday about the job.

A report less than two weeks ago said Kerr expected to be offered the Knicks job and that he would not turn it down.

Kerr does not have any previous coaching experience, though he served as GM and president of the Phoenix Suns from 2007-2010. His connection with Jackson is the reason he’d be able to get a high-profile job like that without having previous experience.
