Steve Kerr would not be surprised if Steph Curry is not unanimous MVP

Steph Curry

Steve Kerr thinks Steph Curry should undoubtedly be the NBA MVP, but he would not be surprised if the superstar guard were not a unanimous selection this year. But that’s not because he questions whether or not Curry is worthy of such an honor.

Rather, Kerr says there are always some voters looking to prove a point who will prevent Curry from being a unanimous MVP pick.

“I would not be shocked if he were not unanimous because there’s always some clever voter out there. It’s just like the Baseball Hall of Fame,” Kerr said Friday via Bay Area News Group’s Diamond Leung. There’s nobody that’s ever been unanimous because there’s always some writer out there who decides, ‘Oh, I don’t want to vote Babe Ruth. That would be sacrilegious to actually have somebody be unanimous. Let’s make Babe Ruth wait 10 years.’ There’s going to be somebody like that out there.”

Even though Kerr’s point is legitimate, it would be hard to imagine someone voting a player other than Curry as MVP. The guard leads the league with 30.5 points per game and is shooting an absurd 51.4 percent from the field — higher than any non-big man in the league. He’s also second in the league in free throw percentage, third in 3-point percentage, and he’s set an NBA record with 330 3-pointers this season. Oh, and have we mentioned that his Warriors are challenging the ’95-’96 Chicago Bulls for the best record ever?

Curry as league MVP is a no-brainer this season. He should be unanimous. Of course, we once saw this happen to Tom Brady, so I suppose anything is possible.
