Steve Kerr concedes that Warriors had to adapt around Steph Curry injuries
Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors spent the entirety of the 2016 Playoffs trying to downplay Stephen Curry’s health issues. Now that it’s all over, Kerr can admit what most observers believed: Curry was hurting, and the Warriors had to adjust in light of that.
Kerr told Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area that Golden State had to change up their plays a bit in light of Curry’s health issues.
“We made a few adjustments in terms of play-calling and actions that we tried to run,” Kerr said Tuesday. “But there’s only so much of that you can do.
“It’s still about flow and rhythm and pace. We tried a few different things – and let’s not forget, he was phenomenal in a few games.”
Kerr admitted that Curry struggled particularly in the Finals, where he struggled to get free from Kevin Love on switches.
“Steph didn’t play his best against Cleveland for some of the series, but he had huge games in other parts of the playoffs, which got us to that point,” Kerr said. “That’s all a part of it. And if we had won the last game, nobody would’ve cared about Steph or his struggles.”
Kerr is right about that. The Warriors tried to play coy, but there were hints that the unanimous MVP was really struggling with multiple issues, including to his knee as well as his ankle. Perhaps things are different if Curry is fully healthy, but the Warriors can’t make any excuses.
