Steven Adams might ‘shoot some threes’ with Kevin Durant gone

Steven Adams

“Always look on the bright side of life,” the Monty Python crew once sang. With Kevin Durant jumping ship this offseason, Thunder center Steven Adams is trying his best to follow that advice.

In a press conference at the North Shore Events Centre in his native New Zealand on Wednesday, Adams saw the good that Durant’s departure might do for his game next season.

“It isn’t up to me whether I’m going to say ‘yo, I’m going to do this,'” said Adams, per Hussein Moses of The Wireless. “It’s the coach’s job to put us in the best position to succeed, not only individually but as a team. So I’m just waiting for his word … [I might] shoot some threes.”

Though the 23-year-old Adams blossomed last postseason as a two-way force to be reckoned with, he may be a little ambitious here. Adams has only attempted two three-pointers in his three-year NBA career thus far, missing both. Still, with stretch seven-footers the trend du jour these days and the Thunder now in dire need of floor spacing without Durant, who made 85 more three-pointers than anybody on the roster last season, what’s not to like if Adams develops that part of his game?

Whether or not Thunder head coach Billy Donovan decides to give Adams a light greener than an Olympic pool to shoot from deep next season, it’s just another day at the office for the Association’s premier quote machine.
