Report: ‘There will be changes’ if Cavaliers do not win NBA title

LeBron James Kevin Love

It’s no surprise, but if the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t bring home an NBA title in 2016, expect some significant changes.

Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical appeared on Friday’s edition of the Dan Patrick Show, and he confirmed that heads will roll if the Cavaliers fall short for a second year in a row.

“If they don’t win, there are going to be scapegoats,” Wojnarowski said. “We know who the scapegoat’s not going to be. It’s not going to be LeBron James’s fault. It’s going to be, whether it’s Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving, Ty Lue. There will be people to fall, there will be people to take the hit if they don’t win it, and there will be changes. You can be assured of that.

“They ran David Blatt out. He was the first fall guy. Now who’s the next one going to be? Is going to be Kyrie? Is it going to be Kevin Love? Because there will be one.”

This is what happens when you put so much pressure on yourselves by going for a championship right away. James isn’t getting any younger, and he’s running he show as long as he’s in Cleveland. Dumping Lue so soon after doing the same to Blatt seems reckless, and it may be more likely that the supporting cast is reshaped. Love has had his well-documented issues with James and has been floated as a postseason trade candidate already, and Irving and James are said to have their fair share of problems as well. One of them may well be the more likely to go, and changes may well be likely given that they’ll likely have to go through either a clinical Spurs team or a 73-win juggernaut in the Warriors if they even make it to the Finals.
