Thunder part with announcer who made controversial Russell Westbrook comment
Brian Davis is out in Oklahoma City just over two months after making a controversial comment about superstar guard Russell Westbrook.
The Thunder announced on Friday that Davis, their longtime play-by-play announcer, will not be having his contract renewed for the 2018-19 season, per Royce Young of ESPN.

Davis, who was the television voice of the Thunder for the last eight seasons and had been hosting broadcasts for the team since they were still the Seattle SuperSonics, made the questionable remark about Westbrook in April. During a game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Davis reacted to Westbrook’s strong play by saying that he was “out of his cotton-picking mind.”

Davis would later apologize for the comment and was suspended by the team for one game as a result. Westbrook also spoke out against what Davis said, and it’s hard to imagine that didn’t play a role in his departure here.
