Tim Duncan happy Heat won, wants to beat them in rematch

Tim Duncan SpursThe San Antonio Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of their Western Conference finals series 112-107 in overtime to reach the finals for the second straight year. And, like last year, their opponent in the NBA Finals will be the Miami Heat.

Though the Heat have now reached four straight Finals and won two in a row, Tim Duncan is not scared of them. In fact, he’s happy Miami repeated as Eastern Conference champions because he feels the Spurs owe them one.

“We were ready last year, we just couldn’t get over that hump,” Duncan said after Game 6 Saturday. “We’re happy to be back this year. We’re happy to have another opportunity at it. We’re happy that it’s the Heat again. We’ve got that bad taste in our mouths still, so hopefully we’ll be ready to take it this time.”

The Spurs really had the series in hand last year and should have closed it out in six games. They were unable to, and after the Heat came back to win Game 6, they went on to win Game 7 and the series.

Will San Antonio get revenge this time? They’re currently favored to win the series. They look like the better overall team and they’ve looked like the best team in the league throughout the postseason. I think they’re going to win it, and I think Duncan will retire afterwards. Who knows? Maybe Popovich will follow him off to the sunset.
