Tony Romo received about 600 text messages after Mavs announcement

Tony Romo

Tony Romo probably received more positive feedback about his one-day appearance with the Dallas Mavericks than he used to get for leading the Cowboys to victory.

News came out on Saturday saying that Romo would be signing to play with the Mavericks for the team’s final home game of the regular season. Speaking with reporters Tuesday about the affair, Romo said he received around 600 text messages. He says this has made for a very special week.

“It’s been overwhelming. I had close to 600 text messages that I’m still working on and then a hundred and something calls and a bunch of other stuff,” Romo said via ESPN’s Jean Jacques Taylor. “I guess it just makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something in some ways, even though I feel like I left something out there that I always wanted to accomplish. And I’ve got to live with that. That’s part of playing sports. It doesn’t always go the way you expect. You can put everything into it and sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. …

“And so this week has been special in the sense that people have made me feel that they appreciated me, that they enjoyed me playing and being the quarterback and that it meant something to them and they wanted to root for me and they were passionate about it. I can’t say thank you enough. It really has been a very special week.”

It’s cool that Romo is receiving somewhat of a farewell from Dallas sports fans. He didn’t get to go out the way he wanted with the Cowboys, as he lost his starting job to Dak Prescott while recovering from back surgery. He is refusing to say that he is retired from pro football, but at least he will have one more chance to perform for the fans prior to saying goodbye.
