Tony Wroten was waived by Knicks for disciplinary reason

Tony Wroten

The New York Knicks somewhat suspiciously released point guard Tony Wroten last week, and the explanation for the move has emerged.

The New York Daily News says Wroten was waived for an undisclosed disciplinary reason.

The Knicks signed Wroten in March despite knowing he was recovering from surgery to repair his torn ACL. He was expected to compete for the starting point guard job until the team traded for Derrick Rose last week. His release was actually announced at the bottom of the team’s press release announcing the Rose trade.

The Memphis Grizzlies have already signed Wroten off waivers, so he has a new home, but this news at least gives us a clue about the reason for the Knicks’ decision.
