Conflicting information on Tristan Thompson contract with Cavs
Has Tristan Thompson agreed to a contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers? There is conflicting information.
ESPN’s Chris Broussard reported Thursday that Thompson will sign a 3-year, $53 million deal with the Cavs

However, the Akron Beacon Journal’s Jason Lloyd refutes that report saying not only is it inaccurate, but the Cavs are not interested in such contract terms.

Thompson and the Cavs reportedly were $14 million apart in contract talks at last check, or nearly $3 million per year over the proposed five-year term. One of the main sticking points is that the luxury tax implications of Thompson’s potential deal with the Cavs are astronomical, meaning they would be paying much more per dollar paid to him in taxes. Thompson also has the option of taking a qualifying offer for the season and then becoming a free agent.
