Tyronn Lue has ironic quote about Kevin Love All-Star game snub

Tyronn Lue

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue is upset about Kevin Love not being selected for the NBA All-Star Game, but in making Love’s case, he stated an argument that might make his predecessor a bit bitter.

Love is averaging a double-double this season for a winning team, and Lue believed that that should get Love into the game. But oh, the irony in this case he made:

“I just thought, in this league it’s always been about winning and winning has always been rewarded,” Lue said Friday, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “Being number one in the East and Kevin being one of four guys in the NBA to average a double-double on a winning team, I’ve just never seen being a first-place team and getting one guy in. I’ve never seen that before.”

David Blatt might note that if winning has always been rewarded, perhaps he should still be employed after putting up an 83-40 record and an NBA Finals appearance, yes? That along with Love’s absence from the game is just further proof that it’s not even that simple. Of course, considering Love has seemed a poor fit in Cleveland and even teammates have thought he might be traded, it’s understandable why he was omitted from the team despite the success – just like it’s understandable why Blatt was let go despite winning, too.
